We just wanted to say congratulations on completing your Action Period for your Personal Project by learning a language with a technology tool!

Most of you managed to reach your SMART goal and you also provided some great insights into the app use and your own learning.

We hope that you now have the tools to evaluate technology tools effectively when considering whether to introduce them to your students to enhance their language learning.

Thanks for all the blog posts and we look forward to seeing your Mojo presentations tomorrow and your poster presentations of your tech tool evaluation.

Please remember to bring your Mojo projects on a USB and don't forget to bring your posters!

TUNG (post 3)

I started my Personal Project on 9 – March and it ended on 21 – March. My target language is Chinese and Memrise is the app I have used to memorize 10 words and a few greeting sentences during the Action Period. With my teacher’s help I find that my learning strategy is cognitive. First of all, I downloaded the app to my mobile phone and then my learning Chinese started. Everyday I spend 10 minutes reviewing previous lesson and learning a new one. After that it took me about 20 minutes because the lessons are more and more difficult. I learned not only words but also greeting sentences. The app gives me many types of checking such as multiple choice, tapping, listening and typing. Especially there are native speaker videos which helps me speak naturally and accurately. Besides, a faded flower on the left corner bloom when I complete my test successfully, which encourages me to learn. Now I can achieve my aim: memorizing 10 words and some greeting sentences. *Through my result I evaluate the app according to Thornbury and Chapelle’s theories:
-The input the app Memrise provides is listening, speaking and vocabulary.
-The app has no output because I just do multiple choice, tapping tests, listening tests
-There’s little interaction.
-It gives general feedback.
-I’m motivated to learn.
*SMART criteria can help me valuate my aim:
-Specific: By the end of the Action period I can memorize 10 words and some greeting sentences.
-Measurable: I’ve made progress.
-Attainable: I achieved my aim.
-Relevant: my aim is clear and the time is suitable.
-Time bound: 2 weeks
Before using the app Memrise, I can’t speak any Chinese at all. But now when I finish my project I can achieve my goal: memorizing 10 words and greetings. I’ll recommend this app to my colleagues and students.

This is the third time I have learned foreign language so I feel eager and excited to study with Duolingo. I think this app has many advantages for everyone who wants to learn foreign languages. During the short time, I have studied German how to introduce myself, using simple sentences with my roommate and learnt by heart about 30 words. After 2 weeks learning German, I realised that my app, Duolingo is really useful since i can study German by myself and practice exercises, especially talk to my roommate some vocabularies which we have just learned and guess them in English or visual aids. Although i tried my best to practice speaking German, i can't get all things as i hope. In the future, i have more time to practice German regularly with this app. Thanks Mr Henno introducing and guiding this app to me.

NGAN. .( POST3 )

First of all,I want to tell you that Duolingo.com is one of the most useful apps for everyone to learn, especially French learning. Why I say so because it is easy for me to follow.I never feel disappointed when I make any mistakes because it will give me a chance to correct myself and it shows me the correct answers immediately. Therefore; I can understand and remember the language better.Although I sometimes have difficulties in listening and translating , after 10 days I can now remember 15 words and some simple sentences to introduce myself and greet someone in French.I am very happy about that.I got level 1 and  I am trying with level 2.I found that it is a very convenient and simple way to use only my cell phone to learn another language with Duolingo.com.I hope that I will be successful in my French learning when I return to Vietnam.

Blog post 3- Bach Yến

My project began on 9th ,March and up to now I can reach my SMART aims.  After a specified period of time I am able to greet in French,  introduce myself and ask simple conversational questions like "Qu'est-ce que c'est?" (What is it?) or " Je peux vous poser une question? " ( Can I ask you a question?) Some words in French are  rather similar to those in English,  which helps me guess their meaning easily.  During the project,  I learn French mainly by listening and repeating with  mosalingua app.  In one word,  I finally reach my aims set at the beginning of the project.

Thong post 3

Hi, every one
Learning French is more interesting although I only study it with Memrise app on my mobile phone.
I have self studied French from the 13 of March. It takes ten minutes for me to learn French every evening.I learnt vocabulary and how introduce about myself in French. During the learning, I usually make mistakes on gende when I make sentence . For example, Je suis vietnamiene(woman say) but I say Je suis vietnamien. Moreover, Some of French is pronunced by nassal accent . It is really  attracted me to learn but sometimes I am not able to say the word in nassal accent.
Memrise is a useful App for learning language. I  learn how to listen, speak ,read,  and write especially  learning  French with native speaker.  I learn single words about  greeting and  name of  country in  the first week.It is easy for me to memory and say the word effectively as I practiced listening more. More over in consilidation exersise I have to write the word  following the tape script or rewrite the sentence  from Enlish to French. In the second week,I review vocabularies and practice it in sentences. Now I can introduce  myself in french. Athough I only learn a little bit
I will  try my best to learn French in the future.

Mai - Post 3

Learning a new language can be really enjoyable when our approach to learning is geared towards having fun and I think Memrise app is doing that well. I found this app more exciting because I used one of the special features to learn vocabulary. That is “Explore” which I can capture every objects and then I know what they are called in Chinese. Furthermore, I really love the profile because I have chance to look back what I have learned already as well as the daily review of progress.
Everyday I usually learn Chinese about 10 minutes at the ferry stop in the morning and 15 minutes before going to bed. I listen to the new words, repeat them loudly and I also take daily notes about the meaning or the quantity of the words. After that, I choose the “Classic review” to do various exercises and practice more with those words. However, I have learned all free topics already so now if I want to learn more, I have to pay to get the Pro Class.
Up to now, I finish my aim because I have gotten 52 words already and I’m able to say a short introduction about myself in Chinese. I think those are my good efford and it is so great to have a wonderful time when learning a new language with mobile apps. I will continue using Memrise, learning more languages in this app and experiencing more suggested apps. Thank you for your suggestion and guidance.

Hello everyone, my name is Tam. After 10 days learning Duolingo software to learn by myself. The benefit of it is that we can stydy in free which is suitable for all of students. In addition, we can practice pronunciation and study vocabulary well because after doing exercise in vocabulary the software speak software again. We listen to the sound and correct them. However, we also face to the limit in grammar carefully. To sum up, i think that this software is usefull.

This is the first time I have learned other language except English so I feel so excited with Duolingo. I have been improving with Russian every day.  My smart aim is achieved gradually. I can say some greetings and introduce myself in Russian. Moreover, I have some vocabularies about drinks,  family, clothes and furniture. Although my level is in basic 1 now and I still make mistakes during learning with this app, I decide to continue studying Russian after this course. Thank Mr. HENNO for introducing Duolingo to me and in the future I believe that I will say Russian as the third language.

Hello everyone! MosaLingua is the app I love because through it I can learn French. My aim is the end of the action period, I want to be able to greet someone, introduce myself and can ask answer some simple questions and I think I achieved my aim. I can say greetings, polite phrases, the essentials and introduce myself. Using this app it make me feel interested because I can learn a new language, it is similar English but it is more difficult than English, that is the reason why I love it.According to me, this app is very good, it helps beginners can learn by themselves, they can learn basics very easy. I hope everyone will use this app in learning new language.

POST 3-Bo Thi Anh Thu

Hello everyone!
This is my last sharing about the Chinese short course in ten days on dualingo.com website. I really think that this is a very useful for learners who want to learn a foreign language. However, learners can only practice listening, writing, and reading skills. They cannot practice speaking skill of a language on this website. There is no interaction between teacher and students when i take this course so that i send some my new words and sentences which i have leant from this website to my sister and ask her for helping difficult exercises. I also feel happy because i can learn a new language with some simple communicated sentences such as greeting 你 好,asking about health 你 好 吗 ,你 身 体 好 吗 ?, an invitation 你 吃 饭 吗 ?。
These are all my sharing for the last posting about dualingo.com

Huu Phuc - Lovely Chinese post 3

Duolingo is one of the most useful apps for everyone who wants to learn foreign language like me. It has many "tips" which make me have more interested in learning Chinese or some lovely messages which remind me to practice studying every day when I pretend to forget using this app. However, I think it is better if there are more pictures in this app, it will absolutely attract to more people. After passing two levels with three topics such as greeting, numbers and names, I definitely believe that I can greet someone and ask basic conversational questions in Chinese.

Uyen (Post 3)

There are many advantages about my app, babbel. com, which I have mentioned in my posts 1 and 2. During the short time, I have learned how to greet, introduce my name, use “you” in formal and informal ways, and form some adjectives for male and female. I absolutely believe that my app is very helpful because I can learn French by myself and practice some exercises which help me memorise what I learned. However, I cannot achieve all things of my aim as I have to pay money if I want to study next levels of each course. I hope that I will learn more French language about learning with my app in the future.

Post 3- Anh

Hinative is an essential tool to make my sound more natural in French. I know how to greet someone in French and I'm knowledgeable about how to make question-and -answer patterns to introduce myself. For example, I want to ask "how are you?' I say 'Comment ça va? or Comment vas-tu?' and I can answer 'Je vais bien',etc. I think this is one of the best apps of learning languages and cultures. It also creates a global community for all language learners. It gets my speaking and writing corrected and this app determined whether or not I sound naturally. On the other hand, I had some problem in using Hinative at the first time because this app focuses on a questions and answers type of learning. I had to make questions and wait for someone answer my questions. I think it is so hard to learn new words by this way.
In short, Hinative is not suitable to learn new words but it is helpful to communicate with native speakers. It works well in connecting me with others over the world. I really enjoy this app.

Blog post 3- Minh Yen

I have just finished my personal progress of self studying French. I chose French 1 and French 2 with 37 words and I got 25,925 points. During my progress, I often reviewed all of the words because sometimes I forgot the meaning and their spellings. The app was so smart and useful that I thought he  was my teacher. When I did not remember to self study last week, I was received an email to remind enjoying the course. It was exciting. I really loved the exercises which helped me consolidate how to pronounce the new words correctly or spell them exactly. When I made mistakes, it helped me correct   them immediately and explained everything clearly. However, I didn’t know if I pronounced the words or sentences correctly. In my view, this is one of the weak points of the app. After finishing two courses, I believe I can greet someone and ask basic conversational questions in French. However, I think I will continue to set up another personal progress when I return to Viet Nam to develop my French skills.

Post 2- Anh

There are many apps we can use for learning language. Hinative is one of the most interesting app to me. It's simple and easy to use by connecting to the internet. Afer installing this app, I started to learn French everywhere in my free time and I find it's a functional tool to connect me with native speakers. I can get my questions answered by adding the questions on the app. For example, "How do you say Hello in French?" and someone can help me by adding the sound "bonjour". In this way, I have a chance to listen to the words and I give them feedback if I want to. Moreover, I can record my voice and ask the question like "does this sound natural?" and then some native speakers can fix my words or sentences and make its sound better. In addition, I can make questions about anything I want to learn in French.
I think this is a practical app that I can practice language day by day. It helps me not only to learn the vocabualy but also to improve listening skill in French.

Hao's Post 2

I set a goal five minutes a day with Duolingo app to learn Russian. Firstly , I signed in with my email address then I choose the level which is for beginners. Because I have never learned Russian so that I have to begin with the "alphabet ". Every day after school, I learn Russian with Duolingo. Experiencing several days, I knew some vocabularies about members in the family : mama(mother), nana (father); the way to introduce myself and others : eto mama(this is my mother.).... and some simple nouns: a house (dom), a motor (motop) , a radio(padno) the negative sentence with "He". After finishing the lesson I got " you've met your daily goal." I feel so happy about this.

Huu Phuc- Lovely Chinese Post 2

Da jia hao! 😊😊😊 Hi, everyone!
After using Duolingo within two weeks for learning Chinese, I find that it is an interesting app. There are many topics that I passed and got gold medals such as greeting, numbers, food and so on. While I was learning Chinese, I was making a lot of mistakes. If I did wrong, the app forced me try to do it again and again. The more I practice doibg the exercises, the better I am. The special thing I would like to share about Duolingo is that at the end of each topic, I had a gold medal that made me get more motivation to study Chinese harder.

Uyen (Post2)

One thing I would like to share with you is that my app is very interesting because when I learn a word, it records my voice. If I repeat it correctly, there will be a green line around a picture. And if the line is red, I have to say the word again until it is green. I strongly believe that by this way I can improve my pronunciation. Another thing is that my app can inform how well I do exercises for each course. For example it shows 27/30, which means that I did 27 correct words in a total of 30 ones. I try them again. I am learning beginner’s course. It is very helpful as I can learn how to form adjectives for male and female.

NGAN. POST 2

I am very happy that I am now able to remember  the meanings of  some new words in French. I can not only write but also translate some simple short French sentences in to English. However,I sometimes misunderstood some words such as "le and la" in French. I can not distinguish their differences exactly. Anyway I will try my best to practice my new language in order to get my aim .I believe I can do that because it is not so difficult to follow if I continue practicing it day by day.

TUNG (Post 2)

Oh! It’s great I can say some greeting sentences in Chinese now with the help of the Memrise apps. Ten minutes is useful for me to review what I’ve learnt and “explore” some more things while I’m cooking. I can speak with good pronunciation because of many native speakers videos. I can review my previous lessons in Classic Review with four different testing types: Multiple choice, Tapping test, typing tests, and Listening tests. On the right corner there’s a faded flower which will bloom when I complete a test successfully.

Tam ( post 2)

Hi everyone, my name is Tam who come from Viet Nam. I am used to using Duolingo to learn French for two weeks. After two weeks working with this software i have some difficulty in structure. This software gives some exercises to learn but it does not explain the exercises carefully. If the learners want to study grammar they are not supported by Duolingo. In my oppinion, i think that this software helps students practice more exercises.

Blog post 2-Minh Yến

After finishing French 1, I continued to choose French 2for my progress. French 2 is more difficult than French 1 that just has lots of simple words and expressions meanwhile there are many sentences in French 2. They made me be confused and hard to remember all of them. However, it was so exciting to spend all of my free time to get them. I have just learned 12 words but I have 2 wrong words, then it helped me try them again. The app was very useful at that time. There’s  one wonderful thing which I have just found with this app. This is “ Explore” part in Memrise. It is like a camera. When I started taking one object with it, it recognized and showed the word in French and its meaning in English. It’s not only so smart but also funny because sometimes it could not give the name or just give the wrong name. For example, when I took a photo of a pencil case, it showed the word “ die Gardine”, it means that the curtain. It was crazy.

Mai - Blog post 2

After some more days that I got more experience with the Memrise app, I had some feelings and good knowledge. Firstly, I found it really convenient because I could learn Chinese in everytime and everywhere such as in my free time before sleeping, at the bus stop, at the ferry stop or even when I was walking. Next, I think that the theme of this app is very easy to use. It has some small logos with names and the user just need to find what they want to do next. For example: everyday I usually choose “Learn new words” and then I choose “Review” immediately to make sure that I get those words. Moreover, I got the words so fast because I practiced with variety of exercises such as listen and choose, reorder the words, translation or write the words...and I loved all of them. Lastly, up to now, my range of Chinese words is about 40 words with level 2 and my points are 16.744. My basic Chinese knowledge now is about the words with some topics like : pronouns, greeting ways, transportation, some countries and some languages. I really can not wait to show what I got so I hope I could greet you in Chinese one day in our class.

Hello everyone! My target language is French. My  chosen mobile technology to experiment with is MosaLingua. Every day I learn French about 30 minutes and I feel interested. I learn words by flash cards, to help us memorize words, we look at flash  cards, listen and repeat. What is more, we can learn the basics such as : greetings, polite phrases, the essentials, ask and answer about simple questions. I think it is useful and suitable for everyone.

POST 2 - Bo Thi Anh Thu

Good afternoon everyone!
This is the second i write about the website which i have choosen for learning a language from Appstore. Chinese language is my target to learn on this website. Five minutes a day is the time that I spend to learn for the online language course in ten days. These are some my comments about learning Chinese on dualingo.com website in five days.                                                                           First, i could find there many advantages on it and now some topics which  i could learn were numbers, greetings, food. I have chosen basic level for the beginning. Each of topic has two or three lessons and contains lots of  exercise types for learners practice the languages in three skills ( listening, writing, reading).
Second there is also one inconvenience that learners cannot practice speaking skill . There is no interation between t-ss as well.
These are all of my sharing for the second posting.

German post 2 Dung

Hello everyone!
After 2 weeks, learning German, I feel interested and eager to practice. Everyday i and my roommate practce greeting and introduce ourselves then we do exercises in Dulingo. In basic 1,2 and introduce I got level 2. However in phrases and ACC case, I only got level 1 because these parts are not easy for me to realize the word is plural or single verbs. They are similar. For example: Ich heib / Er heibt . Ich komme / Er kommt/ Du kommst/ das, der, die...

Blog Post 2- Bạch Yen

So far with the app mosalingua recommended by Mr.  Henno
besides some greetings in French like salut
or  comment vas tu?  I can now use some simple conversational questions like " "Parlez vous anglais? " (Do you speak English?) , "   Où habits? " (Where do you live? )  or " Quel âge as-tu? " ( How old are you?) . Also I can practise with conversation exchange. There are many choices for us to practise with audio only,  audio with French subtiles, or English subtitles or memorize flashcard.  I hope I can finish my project with  my SMART aims  realized.

I'm really interested in learning French in memrise app because of many reasons.
Firstly, there  is a wide range of languages for studying  about 25 languages. After installing the Memrise app,I started to set my target language and have studied language every where in my free time with connecting of internet on my phone.
Secondly, the App is absolutely attracted learner to study by setting game for learning. For instance, the first thing is that  I played guessing game in learning the meaning of vocabulary. There are four pictures with the name below and a supplying word card then I will recognize the the meaning of the word by picture.
Further more,  I can practice  listening  when  I click  on speaker  symbol. I am able to listen to the word again  and again by once a click.
More over, I will learn the word in sentence by unscrambling the word.If I give incorrect word,I  will have to  learn the word again after feed back is given on the app by red sign( wrong anwer),green sign( right answer).
The last but not least is review process at the end of every part with limited time . It is very helpful for me to consolidate what I have learnt before and  I will get a learning record  and then I can learn the language with native speaker.
I think learning a language on the app is an effective way for me.

The first thing I want to say is that the way this app make users like me fascinating is that it always refresh itself. For example : it often update to have more stuffs to deal with. For example , you can take a photo and it will say what the word is . It is marvelous! Like this way, you will always want to learn more because it is easy for you to learn. For instance : take a picture of water and it will say l'eau. Great! Another things I want to mention is that it will help you study difficult words by asking you fill missing words in the blank or rearrange jumble words. All exercises make me so interesting because I want to do more and more . The best part is that you can meet the natives ! They can talk with you and help you correct if you make mistake! It  is great, isn't it? I will use it regularly because it can help me or remind me if I forget to learn. You will see your effort will record in marks and you will receive a reward if you study harder! It has words learnt, words review and your points. It also including the time that you spend to learn the words. If you want to compare or just want to see how develop you were with your friends , memrise will help you show your marks to other by public them in memrise.com. All these things , you can see in your profile. The best thing I like is that you can study up to 100 languages in the world. Amazing! Up to now, I studied about 30 French words and these words can help me having a small talk with foreigners about greetings like" bonjour, merci..." Great! I will keep up with this app!

This is the most interesting experiment I have got with memrise  app. Let me see...I learn about 10 new words a day. It also has a friend- grammabot help you to review old words by have a chat with you. For example , it will say hello to you and by the same time it will review structure too. It's amazing, isn't it?. It's divided many levels and topics . For instance, the first topic will be about :" nice to meet you" like salut, enchanter...  ( French), in the second topic will be talk about " you and I" like vous , je , elle..it always make you excited to learn the next level ! Despite of this app is free but you can find it is so useful for you to learn language. It is divided logically in 4 parts: learn, find, pro and profile. In learning, you can learn follow Level . It depends on lesson : maybe in level one you should have 100 words. In level 2, you will achieve 249 words . It likes a game . You 're always want to get higher and higher level! It challenge you ! It takes your time but you will satisfy with it because it gives you knowledge and joyful when you studying . I never get bored whenever I use this app!

In 2018, I have a chance coming to Australia for learning about teaching methodology and applied linguistics course. At the first week, some lectures in UQ have  introduced many interesting and useful solfwares and websites about learning and teaching languages on the internet to me. I have decided to choose dualingo.com website for studying  Chinese language (besides English) in 5 minutes a day with some reasons.
First, this website is free for users.I do not have to spend money on it.
Second, there are many choices for languages learning. Thus, I have many changes to learn lots of foreign language
Third, I can set up the time i want to learn a day.
I do set up my action period in nine days  and check how much Chinese language I could learn.
I have greeting and number lessons with two parts on first day. There are many kinds of exercise I am practiced on this website such as select the correct character, write in English, matching, etc.
I think that dualingo website is a wonderful website for people who want to learn foreign languages.
These are all my experiences about this website for the first posting.

Hello everyone,
My name is Ngan.I'm a teacher at a secondary school in Vietnam.

I have attended an ICTE course at UQ for nearly two weeks.I have been learning how to use some useful apps to learn foreign languages.I used an app called Duolingo.com in order to get another language and the target language I have chosen is French.

By the end of the course I want to be able to remember and use some new words to greet someone or introduce myself exactly.

In my opinion, this app is so interesting and helpful. It helps me be able to improve my vocabulary, grammar, writing and translating in French. It is easy to follow and gives me many opportunities to correct the false words and sentences immediately so that I can understand and remember the language well.

Hello ! My name' s Minh Duc.I am an English teacher at secondary school. I love my job because I can work with children and the education environment, which is my childhood dream. I like learning a language like French because I love their culture. Books, which I read many times , are Napoleon, Louis XVIII.. They make a big impression on me. How great they were! Therefore, I use Memrise app. I think it's so usefull for me to study language because it can help you in learning new words through game. It's so interesting! And if you achieve your target , for example, French 1, we will receive a reward like  marks . And you can get a higher level. I can study in 1 hour , if I have free time . If not, I will learn in 30 minutes. When you study about 100 words, it will help you review old words by a small game like typing the missing words, or jumbles word. I like it . There are many styles of learning for you to choose . For example, speedy review if you want to challenge yourself. And , review if you would like to review the old ones. My aim will be a small talk with the basic sentences like greetings, ask about health. Yeah, I like this app!!

Learning German

Hello everyone!
My name's Dung. I'm in Green Class. I am excited when I learn German in Duolingo because it makes me have more experieces to study foreign language. I want to greet someone, and ask them somethings by German. After a week, I learned some words and can greet with my friend in  German. I study it everyday at 8_9 pm . The first day it is not easy for to remember some words. I have to write words in English and German at the same time. It makes me waste of time. Expectedly, my roommate learns German, too. I and she talk together every night. Now I feel learning German is interesting.

TUNG (Post 1)

- Hi! My name is Tung
- My plan is learning Chinese with the app “Memorise”.
- My aim is to memorise 10 words and a few greeting sentences.
- Every morning I spend 10 minutes learning. The app gives some words and 2 or 3 sentences. It’s easy to remember because there are some ways to check and review. It also sends email to remind me of reviewing the previous lesson and learning new words.
I feel very excited to learn new things with the help of this app, so I think I will continue using it.

Uyen (post 1)

Hello, my name is Uyen. I choose babbel.com to experience the independent learning of a language with mobile technology and my target language is French. My aim is by the end of the Action period, I want to be able to greet someone, introduce myself, and ask basic conversational questions in French, which is smart. This app is very interesting because it has many courses such as beginner’s courses, intermediate courses, grammar, listening and speaking, reading and writing, countries and traditions, specials, words and sentences. It is suitable for my learning strategies as I can listen, repeat, and do exercises. Now I can speak and write some simple words and sentences for example merci, bien, oui, non, and Ça va?, Et vous?

My favorite things

I love learning things like language because I read somewhere is that if you study a language, your brain will be smarter and younger. I love the culture so by learning it I can imagine , feel and touch others' soul, who are living in that faraway places. That is interesting, isn't it?

Life in Brisbane!

The day I first came here, I felt amazing. The view was so specutar with fresh air and many green trees. Teachers were friendly and funny. At first I felt so strange but now I feel famaliar with this place. I love crows so much! They 're so friendly ! I often feed them with bread. So peaceful!

Hello. I’m Truc Mai from the Green Class. My new target language will be Chinese (Mandarin) because there are many China companies and Chinese who are working successfully in many fields in my province.  After I experienced many useful apps, I decided to choose and install MEMRISE app which is attractive and has various learning activity.
